I Dream of Jeannie
I Dream of Jeannie is the first show I remember falling in love with. It was the first show I remember wanting to be a part of. It’s the first show where I aspired to be the actors, and looked up to them. It was the first time I fell in love with a character. It gave me my very first OTP in Jeannie and Major Nelson. I wanted nothing more than for them to be happy together. It’s the first show I remember consuming my life, in a way that only being a member of a fandom can be understood.
I was six (1994), maybe I watched earlier too, but six is when I vividly remember telling stories at school of this magical show, and how beautiful and enchanting Jeannie was. (Barbara Eden too!) It made me believe in so many impossible things, and I don’t think I’ve stopped since. For most kids in my generation, Harry Potter introduced them to a world of possibilities and magic, but for me, that was I Dream of Jeannie.
